COLONEL COUPLE

Mark Plaisance (A.S. ‘82; B.A. ’83) & DesLey Viator Plaisance (B.S. ’81; M.S. ’83)

Mark and DesLey were introduced to each other by a mutual friend at “The Colonels’ Retreat” in January of 1982 while attending Nicholls.  They have been married for 34 years.  Mark and DesLey dated while completing their degrees and were married in August 1983.  Mark first worked in the newspaper business as a reporter, sales manager, and publisher.  He then went on to Louisiana State University law school receiving his degree in 1994.  Mark has his own law practice and is the Lafourche Parish Chief Public Defender.  DesLey has taught mathematics for the past 36 years – first, as a graduate assistant at Nicholls, then as a public high school teacher, and as an instructor at Louisiana State University for 19 years.  DesLey earned her Ph.D. in 2007 and came home to Nicholls.  She now is the Director of University Graduate Studies and the Head of the Mathematics Department.  Mark and DesLey have one son Marcus and a wonderful daughter-in-law Katie, but their pride and joy is their granddaughter Avery Kate.
