What did your time at Nicholls State University mean to you?
“My time at Nicholls as an undergraduate student-athlete from 1995-98 and a graduate student from 1999-2000 was memorable, rewarding; yet, challenging. I meet lifelong friends and appreciated the time/investment my professors poured into me. Those experiences help shape my personal and professional development. When I stumbled, Nicholls allowed me to dust myself off, grow, and obtain a top-notch education.”
What is your favorite memory from Nicholls?
“I have many favorite memories at Nicholls, but I think my fondest memory is my Greek Life experience. My initiation into Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated has proven to be a sustainable and positive influence on my life and the service I give to others. My membership in Delta enriches my life and my overall health – as I am surrounded by selfless women with endless love for their communities.”
What made you choose Nicholls?
“The smaller campus size and family atmosphere were key factors in my decision to attend Nicholls over other state schools. Personal relationships and reasonable class sizes also were important to me.”
What do you do now and how did Nicholls help you?
“I work in Marketing/Communications in Indianapolis, Indiana. My undergraduate and graduate business classes/degrees help prepare me for the evolving world of business and the ability to adapt to said change.”
What would be your advice to current students of Nicholls?
“My advice for current students is three-fold: (1) embrace imperfection – you’ll spend enough adult time trying to conquer perfection; so, stay in the moment, and extend yourself some grace while achieving your goals. (2) Unlearn multi-tasking. It is not effective or helpful! (3) Surround yourself with friends living “in” and using their gifts – those persons will love you without pretense or judgment, tell you the truth, and will push you to be your best self all while supporting you ferociously.”
What does it mean to you to be a chartering member of the Nicholls State University Black Alumni Chapter?
“Becoming an officer and charter member of the Black Alumni Chapter is one of the greatest highlights of my 2020. The Black Alumni Chapter will allow me the ability to serve and give back to my alma mater beyond financial donations. The Black Alumni Chapter will foster relationships and involvement among Black Alumni and minority students at Nicholls. Our goal is to become a valuable asset to the Nicholls community through our words, actions, and deeds. We are Black Excellence and will strive to set a new gold standard among minority students as they transition into their respective professions.”
